Soccer Unable to Score Versus Plymouth State, 2-0

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University made the most of two second half goals in a 2-0 shutout of Wellesley College soccer on Wednesday at Arold Field. The win improves the Panthers to 3-3 while the Blue fall to 3-2-1.

At the 55:17 mark, Panthers first-year Maggie McDonald (Pembroke, Mass.) booted a shot from the upper right side just beyond the penalty area that lofted high over the goalie and into the upper left side of the goal.

Senior Molly Bellmore (Hebron, Conn.) upped the PSU lead to 2-0 with just under four minutes in the contest. Bellmore dribbled through a pair of defenders and spotted the ball in the top right corner of the goal.

Wellesley peppered Plymouth State with shots in the first half, putting up 10 total shots with five on goal. Sophomore Isabella Tolosa (Santa Clara, Calif.) led the visitors with five attempts in the game. The Blue ended the contest with a 23-7 shot advantage and took seven corner kicks.

Sophomore Christa Giansiracusa (Tewksbury, Mass.) was perfect for Plymouth State, defending all 10 shots on goal.

Senior keeper Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) stopped two shots for Wellesley in the opening half while first-year Olivia Lore (Blue Bell, Pa.) tallied a pair of saves in the second stanza.

Both teams are on the road on Saturday, September 20. The Blue will be playing in its NEWMAC opener at Coast Guard Academy at 12:00 PM. The Panthers head to Western Connecticut State for a 9:30 AM kickoff.
