MEDFORD, Mass. -- The No. 6 ranked Wellesley College crew Varsity Eight (V8+) took third in a series of match races with No. 12 Tufts, No. 1 Bates, and No. 7 Wesleyan.
Wesleyan (6:41.4) defeated the Blue V8+ (6:44.11) in the opening race for Wellesley, relegating the crew to the V8+ consolation final. In the consolation final, Wellesley bounced back, defeating Tufts (7:15.3) to finish third among the four V8+ crews with a time of 6:54.8.
The Wellesley Second Varsity Eight (2V8+) also raced in the consolation final, defeating Tufts (7:10.6) with a time of 7:08.2. The 2V8+ opened the day with a time of 7:03.2, coming-up short versus Wesleyan (6:58.9). The Blue got back at the Cardinals (7:30.2) in the Third Varsity Eight (3V8+) event, advancing to the 3V8+ final with a time of 7:09.5. The Blue 3V8+ finished second to Bates (6:55.0) in 7:11.1.
Bates (8:07.6) also defeated the Blue (8:28.5) in the Varsity Four match race. Wellesley had the top time (7:18.5) in the Fourth Varsity Eight (4v8+), defeating Tufts (7:22.6).
Wellesley and Bates will match-up again tomorrow in a regatta on Lake Quinsigamond that also includes WPI, Trinity, and RIT.
