WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis players swept the NEWMAC weekly awards for the period ending October 14th. Blue first-year Suzanne Barth was named Singles Player of the Week, while junior Diana Granger and sophomore Sojung Lee earned Doubles Team of the Week honors.
Barth, a native of Kansas City, Mo., went a perfect 5-0 this week, with a NEWMAC win and an undefeated record at the Bowdoin Invitational. In a 6-3 team victory over Wheaton, the first year picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Caroline DiNicola in the five spot. At the Bowdoin Invitational, Barth swept through competition, winning each of her matches in straight sets. For the week, she allowed opponents just eight total games against her.
Granger (Glencoe, Ill.) and Lee (Seoul, KOREA) went 4-0 for the Blue this week, picking up a NEWMAC win and going undefeated at the Bowdoin Invitational. Opening the week in NEWMAC play, the pair topped Wheaton's number one duo of Lyndsay Cooke and Alexandra Marlowe. 8-5. At the Bowdoin Invite, Granger and Lee swept through the top-flight of the tournament, beating doubles pairs from Bowdoin, the University of Rochester and Bates.
This is the second NEWMAC weekly honor for Granger and Lee, as they previously won the award on September 17th. Barth, meanwhile, picks up her first NEWMAC award.
The Wellesley tennis team is 5-2 overall with a 4-1 mark in NEWMAC play. The team next plays on Tuesday, hosting NEWMAC-rival Babson at 5:00pm.
