BOSTON, Mass. -- Wellesley College crew kicked-off their 2017-18 campaign on Sunday afternoon at the 53rd annual Head Of The Charles Regatta (HOCR). Founded in 1965, the HOCR is a two-day rowing event held on the Charles River in Boston that feature many of the top rowers, teams and clubs from around the world.
Teams and spectators alike were greeted with unseasonably warm temperatures at this year's regatta, as Blue Crew took to the course in a pair of events on the afternoon. Wellesley featured a pair of boats in the Women's Collegiate Eights, finishing 14th and 20th overall. Wellesley 'A' stroked by senior Kelsey Campbell (Broomfield, Colo.) finished the course in 17:04.267 to take 14th, while Wellesley 'B' with stroke Mia Caglieris (Hightstown, N.J.) took 20th with a time of 17:41.462.
The Blue also featured a boat in the third to final event of the weekend, the Women's Collegiate Fours. Stroked by sophomore Maria Iannotti (Narragansett, RI), the Blue finished in 20:16.243 to take 31st in the race.
Wellesley returns to the Charles River next Sunday for the annual Seven Sisters Championship, October 29, at 9:30 AM.
