Academic Expectations
As a member of the NCAA Division III, Wellesley student-athletes are required to be a full-time student, maintaining satisfactory progress toward graduation (on track to graduate in four years), and in good academic standing (maintain 2.0 GPA or higher).

Wellesley places the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience. We deliberately seek to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete’s activities are conducted as an integral part of their educational experience. In keeping with this philosophy, we place special importance on the impact of athletics on the student-athlete. Toward this end, we have attempted to establish practice times and game times that minimize conflicts with classes. Despite our best efforts, we understand that conflicts will exist. Academic commitments always take precedent over practice but occasionally student-athletes may miss class for a competition. Early communication with professors is critical in these situations.

AMPs also stick with your student throughout the year and are there as both a familiar face and a mentor. In addition to the events at the beginning of the year, AMPs host academic and social events to provide your student with guidance throughout their first year at Wellesley.

Division III
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is the national governing body for college athletics. Wellesley is a member of the NCAA and competes at the Division III level. More than 170,000 student-athletes at 444 institutions make up Division III, the largest NCAA division. The Division III experience offers participation in a competitive athletic environment that pushes student-athletes to excel on the field and build upon their potential by tackling new challenges across campus. Academics are the primary focus for Division III student-athletes. The division minimizes the conflicts between athletics and academics and helps student-athletes progress toward graduation by reducing time away from academic studies. Participants are integrated on campus and treated like all other members of the student body, keeping them focused on being a student first. MORE >
