Fitzgerald Added to Wellesley Sports Medicine Staff

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College Director of Sports Medicine, Dr. Kristen Weeks, has announced the addition of Mollie Fitzgerald to the staff, beginning in August. Fitzgerald will serve an internship in the department, fulfilling all the duties of an athletic trainer for Wellesley’s 14 varsity programs.

"We are very excited to add Mollie to our sports medicine team," said Weeks.  "She is a well-rounded individual that will add great experiences that our student athletes can learn from. She also has a solid clinical background that will transfer nicely into her position here at Wellesley."

Fitzgerald recently completed her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from Merrimack College. A four-year starter and three-year captain on the tennis team, Fitzgerald completed clinical experiences with a variety of varsity programs while at Merrimack. Her most recent clinical work came as an athletic training student with Merrimack’s Division-I men’s ice hockey program.

Prior to her work with the ice hockey team, Fitzgerald worked with the Warriors football, field hockey and track and field teams. While on campus, she served as an executive board member on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a member of the Merrimack student conduct board, and an orientation coordinator. Fitzgerald also spent a summer as an athletic training intern with the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

A versatile and dedicated student athletic trainer, Fitzgerald was a part of the college’s Haiti Service Learning Initiative. As part of the program, she traveled to Haiti during the summer of 2012 and the winter of 2013 in conjunction with Project Medishare. While in Haiti, she took part in a program that trained Haitian health agents to provide patients with exercises designed to treat and prevent musculoskeletal injuries.

"I am very excited to join the Wellesley College sports medicine staff as the athletic training intern in the fall," said Fitzgerald. "I am looking forward to working with Kristen and Jenae, and learning from their experiences and success," she added. "Wellesley has an amazing reputation for its bright and talented student body and I feel very fortunate to become a part of the community."

Fitzgerald holds BOC certification, state licensure, and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
